Emily Dickinson wrote of a bee arriving late to its flower, fainting with the reaching, circling the chamber, counting its nectars before it dares go in. This earring is the moment just before that: an oval green stone, held in an ornate gold frame like a small enclosed garden, and below it, a single gold bee, crowned, wings spread, pausing over a second green stone at its center.
The whole piece runs long, nearly three inches, gold on gold on green, heavy enough to announce itself and detailed enough to reward a second look. Vines, wings and a crown, all worked by hand into old gold.
Wear it somewhere with good light, a wedding, a long dinner, anywhere a bee might reasonably be expected to take its time.
