The Hester Bloom Stud Earrings

Hester Prynne stitched her own scarlet letter in fine red cloth, framed, Hawthorne tells us, in fantastic flourishes of gold thread, and turned a punishment into the most beautiful thing in the room. This stud borrows her instinct exactly: five petals of deep, glossy red enamel, gathered at the center into a small cluster of pearls and crystal, all held together in gold.
It sits close to the ear rather than swinging free, more bloom than statement, small enough for a Tuesday and rich enough for anything after six o'clock. The red holds its color under any light, the way certain feelings do.
Wear one on each ear, or just the one, pinned through a buttonhole instead. Either way, let it be noticed on your own terms.
