There is an old story about a serpent who loved a mortal man enough to become a woman for him, if only for a while. Keats called her Lamia, and this is what she might have worn: a coil of antique gold closed around a deep green stone, like her own eye turned solid, tapering down to a small serpent's head at the ear.
Below her, a single pearl hangs the way a tear catches light before it falls, held in a cap of gold filigree. The earring runs long, just under three inches, and settles close against the neck rather than swinging free.
Wear it with your hair back and nothing else at the throat. This one was never meant to share the stage.
