Proserpina only had to eat six pomegranate seeds to be bound to the underworld for half of every year after, and poets from Shakespeare to Swinburne have never quite let her go. This pendant keeps the fruit itself rather than the seeds, a small gold pomegranate, ribbed and closed, still deciding whether to open, with a single gold leaf caught beside it like it just fell from the branch.
It hangs from a fine gold link chain long enough to sit below the collarbone, quiet until it catches the light and someone asks what it is. Small enough for every day, meaningful enough to explain if they ask twice.
