The Thornfield Drop Earrings

There is a kind of garden that only grows after dark, and this is what it left behind. A tiger's eye cabochon, warm as lamplight through amber and threaded with its own slow ribbon of gold, sits caught in a nest of gilded thorns, each one curling as though it grew there overnight. Tiny crystals scatter along the vines like dew that forgot to fall.
Above it, a small antique-gold bloom holds to the ear; below, the drop swings free, catching the light with every turn of the head. At 4 cm it is long enough to be noticed and light enough to forget: barely five grams, all told.
Wear it with an open collar and unbrushed hair. It suits an autumn evening, a borrowed coat, and a walk home longer than it strictly needed to be.
